Healthy Forest - Definition

Definitions of healthy forests are complex. The following definition is taken loosely from the Southwest Research Station of the USFS.

A forest with trees in varied diameter classes with reduced continuity of surface and ladder fuels, a viable understory cover, wildlife habitat, and hydrological functions and aesthetically pleasing mix of pines, cedars, firs and oaks visible within and among clumps.
